Three important elements

New development… The spaces now fit in around an “organic” web of poles, at various angles [to be structurally supported by a few vertical poles where needed]. This obviously leads to more varied spaces, whilst still allowing for growth…

There are three important defined elements… The spaces, the connection between these spaces and the ramp beneath them, that i intend to extend along the existing pathway in places [indicative, patches will have the ramp to lead visitors, but the path won’t be continuous, linking to the concept of pathfinding from term 1], this ramp is also to exhibit the scaffolding construction.

When I’m back in Plymouth I’m going to attempt to make some models to determine the spaces [unless you can think of any ways to do it with computer modeling?]

HI GANG. Here are my latest developments - I have a lot more work to show but these are the main parts of my joined up thinking. I have endeavoured to refine my many ideas into a more specified, concise set of activities on site.

Rationale:

Starting with the premiss of the previous project i.e. ‘mine-scape path’, the conceptual and physical link is predominately an unrestricted path around the major water lake of the site, incorporating the dynamic features of cliffs, slopes and of course expansive water to create an outdoor ‘radical’ physical activity centre. [now titled - Xtreme eXperience] The main activities now focused on will be:

a] Extreme Diving/Jumping
b] Zip wire [with a twist]
c] Zorbing i] down slopes ii] across water
d] Potential for more ideas such as ‘Giant sphere swing’

The temporary event remains as before and will be stand alone, however, the facilities provided by the long-term collective structures will be utilised in great part for this particular event together with the new temporary structures.

Unfortunately my printer is currently broken so the map is rather scrappy - apologies for that, nevertheless I’m hoping it will still demonstrate the basic general arrangement on site.

I also have another sheet to upload that will explain the process behind the spherical/cylinder forms largely dominating the site.

I finally finished it! It took four days to complete, a file size of over 40MB (thats big for it’s type!) and many, many hours in SketchUp, but this is the closest I think we can get to an accurate 3D model of the site, circa 2006. Phew. Now I’m off to nurse my RSI-ridden fingers!

New site entry route = 1:20 ramp (scaffolding & scaffold boards)

Above this sites a series of “pods” containing each of the required elements… connections between these at appropriate levels… 2 pathways… one down the slope and one around the pods. Pods are at least 3.5m above the ground so that people can walk underneath (and won’t necessarily be square!)
